***FULLY TESTED AND REWOUND***

Amore's two episodes were a departure from Rossellini's neo-Realism and a gift to the actress, MAGNANI, whose spellbinding performance is a tour-de-force in cinema. In Jean Cocteau's The Human Voice, never before seen in this country, she is alone onscreen with a telephone, desperately pleading with her lover, who intends to abandon her for a wealthy woman.

Fellini inspired The Miracle, the story of a simple peasant woman, Nanni, who is seduced by a stranger she believes to be St. Joseph. The people of her village torment her when she declares the child will be the New Messiah. Rossellini felt post-war Europe was losing its spiritual values; Nanni's simple faith is tested by the cynicism of her peers. The Miracle had the distinction of being the test case which resulted in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that films are protected by the First Amendment.
